Lucretia Fels

Lucretia Fels was born August 21, 1932 in Louisville, Kentucky to Everett Roberts and Clara Hampton. She was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Griffytown, KY at the age of 12. Lucretia attended Central High School and graduated in 1950. Soon after graduating she moved to Evanston, IL and married Carl L. Fels on July 21, 1958.

Lucretia was multi-talented, and her ambitions led her into a variety of careers. She was employed by General Electric Company for a number of years. In 1970 she earned her cosmetology license. She owned several beauty salons and won multiple competitions at the Louisville Defender Black Expo. Next, Lucretia attended the Louisville Police Academy in 1979 and served as a police officer for the Louisville Housing Authority for seven years. During her tenure she was awarded Honorary Chief of Police, Pegasus Parade Award, and the Flood Relief Award.

Lucretia was also very involved in the community. running for metro city council and she volunteered at Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School as a grandparent.

Lucretia's greatest passion was ministry and service. She established a religious foundation for her children and grandchildren, requiring them to participate in Pastor's Choir at Greater Freeborn Baptist Church. She was called and licensed to preach the gospel on July 24, 1998 and served as an associate minister at St. Stephen Church, Von Speigel Missionary Baptist Church, Progressive Faith Baptist Church, and Promiseland Baptist Church. Lucretia founded Golden Year Ministry to bring the gospel to elders at James Taylor Nursing Home and Northfield Nursing Home. She also participated in the Elder Serve Ministry of Oak & Acorn.

She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Sheree L. Fels, brother, Harold Roberts, grandson Marco Fels.

Lucretia is survived by her mother, Eleanor Roberts, daughter, Carol Y. (Jesse) Clark, daughter, Sheryl L. Westmoreland, son, Carl L. Fels, Jr.

10 grandchildren, Micheal Travis, Jr., Jelisa Clark, Deanna McMillan, Tiffany Fels, Samille Horne, Douglas Porter, Torey Fels, Julian Westmoreland, Jilian Westmoreland, and Dominique Fels.

30 great-grandchildren Marcola Fels, Mi`Kaya Travis, Micheal Travis III, Tamara Travis, Samaria Travis, Mikel Travis, Vinay Sarver, Victor Sarver, Valencia Sarver, Ananiah Burrus, Jeriah McMillan, De'Angelia McMillan, Marco Fels, Demontre Horne, Demetrious Horne, Demia Horne, Torian Beals, Telea Fels, Ashton Martin, Callie Porter, Jovanni Roach, Jody Roach, Jayvion Young, Ryah Wakefield, Kaleb Brunster, Alyse Bradford, Jaidyn Dorsey, Rae'Lynn Fels, Sarah Fels, Levaiya Fels; and one great-great grandchild Skylar King.
