With profound respect and deep remembrance, we mark the passing of Lucinda de Hernandez—affectionately known as Lupe—who departed this life on July 2, 2026, having graced the world with over a century of vibrant living. Born on September 20, 1923, in Miranda Carabobo, Venezuela, Lucinda’s spirit was shaped amidst the warmth, color, and enduring traditions of her homeland, qualities she carried with her throughout her long and remarkable journey.
Lucinda’s heart radiated happiness and an exuberance that drew people near. Courageous and outgoing, she was a beacon of warmth in every gathering—quick to laughter, joyful in conversation, and known for her boundless generosity. Her innate kindness was evident to all; Lucinda would unfailingly extend a helping hand to anyone in need, her empathy and selflessness leaving an indelible mark on countless lives.
Gifted with astonishing skill, Lucinda was an avid seamstress whose talent seemed almost magical; she could craft garments and keepsakes by sight alone, weaving together not just thread and fabric, but the cherished hopes and stories of family and friends. She was an entrepreneur that had a store with her sister, selling the latest fabrics and trends in the city of Valencia, Venezuela.
As much as Lucinda loved her craft, her greatest joy was found in the company of family. Her home was ever filled with the scent of lovingly prepared meals and the sounds of laughter and conversation, as she delighted in gathering loved ones close for moments both ordinary and extraordinary. Food was her medium of togetherness, and every shared table an expression of her dedication and love.
To those who had the privilege of knowing her, Lucinda’s legacy is woven from countless small acts of kindness and moments of shared happiness. She taught by example what it meant to live with grace, to reach out to others, and to celebrate the bonds of family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Maria Leon; siblings, Lida Leon, Emma Paez, Graciela Colmenares, Jose Leon, Julio Leon, Gisela Leon and Maria Leon.
Lucinda is survived by her sister, Carmen Alecia Mendez; son, Gustavo (Charlotte) Paez; nephews, Rafael Paez, Jose (Amaloa) Paez, Miguel (Ana) Colmenares; niece, Maria Elena (Carlos) de Aponte; grandchildren, Ana Paez, Emma Paez, Alicia Gomez and Lucy Paez; great-grandchildren, Isabel Gomez, Daniel Gomez, Henry Edward "Teddy" Schweitzer and Maeve Schweitzer.
