Loyd Allen Pierce (84), of Lanesville, Indiana born on December 15th, 1941. He passed away peacefully on January 3rd, 2026, at Indian Creek Healthcare Center in Corydon, Indiana. A proud Veteran of the United States Army, Loyd was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and the son of Curtis E. Pierce and Marian A. Pearce-Pierce McElroy.
Loyd grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. But lived most of his life in the Georgetown/Lanesville area. Loyd dedicated 40 years to Harland Clarke and retired as a Master Mechanic. Loyd also served in the United States Army as a helicopter mechanic and was honorably discharged after being stationed at Saran Army Airfield near Orléans, France.
Loyd loved tinkering with his CB radios. Even well into his 80s, he stayed sharp, kept up with social media, and spent plenty of time on his ham radio as a licensed operator. He was always joking around; with a laugh you could hear a mile away and a steady stream of dad jokes.
He is survived by his son, Duane Pierce (Joy) of Lanesville, Indiana; his daughter, Sherry Akridge (Kevin) of Lanesville, Indiana; his grandsons, Codey Coke (Kirsten) of Lanesville, Indiana, Joseph Pierce (Rebecka) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Steven Pierce (Alexa) of Greenville, Indiana, William “Billy” Pierce (Olivia) of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and Gabriel Lucas (Samantha) of New Albany, Indiana; his great-grandson, Callan Pierce of Salt Lake City, Utah, and his brother, Stephen Douglas Pierce (Jewelene) of Louisville, KY.
Loyd is preceded in death by his brother, Curtis E. Pierce of Louisville, KY.
Loyd’s wishes were to assist his daughter, Sherry, in planning his final service, although the music/song selection may not be traditional, it was his personal choice. He chose to leave a final statement with a lyric from the song, “Man of Constant Sorrow” from the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” to pass on to his friends and family.
“My face, you’ll never see no more. But there is one promise that is given, I'll meet you on God's golden shore”.
He respectfully asks that when you attend his celebration of life, please come together to celebrate with stories and laughter regarding the long life he was given with his family.
A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday January 14, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, with a Veterans Memorial Service to follow at 6:00pm, at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana, 47150. Memorial flowers may be sent to this location.
