Margret Louise Alvey, affectionately known as Louise, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 27, 2026, at the remarkable age of 99 years and 7 months. Born on July 20, 1926, in Louisville, Kentucky, she lived a life filled with love, devotion, and a deep commitment to her family and community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lena Schroerlucke Goss and John Goss, her husband, Harold Alvey, and her daughter, Paulette Alvey Smith.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Karen Alvey, and two grandchildren, Carletta Smith England (William) and Brian Smith (Christina),her grandchildren Kaelyn, Carson, Blake, Justin, Madeline, and Paisley, and great-great-grandchild Ilyas.
Louise was a devoted housewife and mother. While Paulette and Karen were young, Louise enjoyed working part time as a Welcome Wagon Hostess in the Jeffersontown area. After they were in high school, she worked for an optometrist in Jeffersontown. She worked there for many years until her retirement in 1989.
Throughout her life, she loved collecting recipes and cooking. She also spent many hours creating beautiful cross stitch needlework and gardening beautiful flowers and plants. She also enjoyed walking and riding her bicycle to stay healthy and fit, which contributed to her being with us until she was 99 years.
During their early retirement, Louise and Harold also enjoyed spending much of the winter months in Daytona Beach. They also visited every state park in Kentucky.
