Lorraine Vera Schaedel, 89, of Louisville, KY, entered into eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.
She was born on March 2, 1931 in St. Louis to the late Carl Louis Hertel and Corrine (Neulist) Hertel. She is also preceded in death by her husbands, J.Y. Wilhoite and Gordon Schaedel and her son-in-law, Ken Towery.
Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Dr. Joanne Plichta Towery and Janice Rowland (Kent); step-sons, John Schaedel (Linda), Jim Schaedel (Sharon), and Jim Wilhoite (Vickie); grandsons, Michael Plichta (Nicole), Eric Rowland (Joanna), Adam Rowland, Greg Schaedel (Karen), Jay Wilhoite (Hillary), Peyton Wilhoite, and Kris Towery (Sarah); granddaughters, Christine Osborn (Rob), Lisa Wehner, Karen Barrows (Eric), Meg Miller (Scott), and Lorea Towery Ware (Donald); and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Carl L. Hertel Jr.
Lorraine loved to play volleyball and played on her high school team. She also loved gardening and in recent times talked about how she would love to be able to get outside and pull those weeds! She was an excellent seamstress, making many of her own clothes as well as her daughters' and teaching them to do the same. She loved to sing and although having short term memory loss in her later years, could still remember all of the lyrics for the songs of her day. And she could still play (and win!) a mean game of gin rummy which she enjoyed doing with her family. Lorraine had a quick wit, a sweet spirit and a smile for everyone. Her daughters most appreciate that she instilled in them Biblical values and through her they came to know the love of Jesus in their own lives.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am on Monday, October 19, 2020 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243) with burial to follow at Floydsburg Cemetery in Crestwood, Kentucky.
