Lori Hagest, 49, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025.
She was born on December 19, 1975, in New Albany, Indiana, to Sam and Joyce Hagest. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Daniel Carney.
Lori is survived by her loving husband, John Hamlet; her daughter and greatest joy, Samantha Carney; her mother, Joyce Ann Hagest; her father, Samuel Joseph Hagest; her brother, Brian (Leslie) Hagest; her nephew, Vincent Hagest; her stepchildren, Finnegan Hamlet and Lilly Hamlet; her mother-in-law, Mary Ellen Hamlet; her father-in-law, Charles Hamlet; and her best friend, Chasson Higdon.
Lori lived a vibrant life full of love, laughter, and connection. She never met a stranger and was known for her outgoing personality, kind heart, and sharp wit. She had a deep love for her family and friends, always offering unwavering support and thoughtful gestures-especially through her famously heartfelt cards.
A graduate of DePauw University and a proud Delta Gamma, Lori studied abroad in Essex, England, and carried a lifelong curiosity for the world. Lori’s professional life reflected her passion for both people and animals. She worked in fundraising at the Louisville Zoo, where she championed conservation efforts and developed a deep knowledge of animal care and advocacy. She was also the owner of Deck the Walls, a Louisville frame store that provided custom memorabilia and meaningful keepsakes to the community. An accomplished event planner and public speaker, she brought people together with ease and grace.
Lori had many passions: she was an avid Disney and Star Wars fan, a talented baker known for perfecting and passing down her grandmother’s cherished recipes, and someone who loved to dance, travel, and celebrate life to the fullest.
Above all, Lori’s heart belonged to her daughter, Samantha. Their bond was unbreakable, and Lori's love for her family guided everything she did.
