Lorelei "Dottie" Bentley, 91, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025. Dottie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and Meemaw to her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the true definition of a coal miner's daughter as she was born in Millstone, Kentucky in a coal mining camp. When she began school, the teacher asked her name and she stated "Lorelei". When the teacher asked how to spell it, she replied
"D-O-T-T-I-E". Dottie continued her education and earned her degree in Education at the age of 50. She often referred to herself as an "Educated Hillbilly". She retired from JCPS after dedicating 16 years of service to her students. Dottie had a strong faith in the Lord and cherished singing the classic old Scottish hymns. She was a member of the Shiloh Old Regular Baptist Church in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Dottie was an avid UofL Cardinals fan and often rivaled her family of UK fans. She will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
She was born on October 19, 1934 in Millstone, Kentucky to Blain and Mabel (Adams) Kiser. She is preceded in death by her father, Blain Kiser; mother, Mabel Kiser; husband, Bobby Gene Bentley; son, Ronald Lin Bentley; and brother, William Harold Kiser.
Dottie is survived by her loving family, daughters, Jeanie Gammon, Jessica (David) Price; son, Robert (Kelli) Bentley; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way; 1 great-great grandchild; as well as a host of extended family and friends to cherish her loving memory forever.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway. Her Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel with burial to follow at Bethany Memorial Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
The family requests that contributions in Dottie's memory be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.
