Lonnie’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and strength, traits he demonstrated not only in his vocation but also in his cherished relationships with family and friends. He is survived by his adoring children: Patricia Turner, Richard Turner, Hillary Turner, and Lonnie Turner, II. He took great joy in the lives of his grandchildren-Sierra, Harley, Taylor, Trinity, Camden, Oliver, Kevyn, and McKenna-and he was a proud great-grandfather to several great-grandchildren.
He shared a special bond with his siblings: Lee Roy (Billie) Turner, Johnnie (Brenda) Turner, May Taylor, and Betsy Turner. Alongside them, he held dear the connections he nurtured with his ex-wife, Patricia Turner, as well as the love and support of several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever cherish his memory.
Lonnie's journey in life was enriched not only by his family but also by his service in the United States Army, offering him a profound sense of dedication and honor that he carried throughout his years. Beyond his pastoral work, he found solace in taking walks, fishing, attending church, and most importantly, spending quality time with his family.
He now joins his loved ones who have preceded him in death, including his sons Jess Turner, III and Joe Turner, daughter Dorothy Turner, grandchild Legend, siblings Virginia Burton, Josephine Nixe, Eugene Turner, Susie Hughes, Bobby Turner, Ruthine Fetz, and James Turner, as well as his ex-wife, Maxine Black. Their reunion will undoubtedly bring smiles and laughter as they recount their shared memories.
A visitation will be held in his honor on October 14, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service celebrating his remarkable life at 1:00 PM. Both events will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150. Burial will follow at Clarkson Cemetery in Clarkson, Kentucky.
