Lonnie Thomas Hurt, 79, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
He was born to Otis and Mary Lou Hurt in a Highland Park Neighborhood doctor's office.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Mary Louise "Lou" Hagan Hurt Maples , Otis Hurt, his son Lonnie Scott Hurt, his daughter in law Cindy Hurt Wilson and his "little girl" Peaches.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dianna Mason Hurt, two grandsons - Steven Ayron Hurt of Louisville, Thomas Michael Wilson and his wife Kristen of Louisville, three sisters- Donna Katherine Hurt Lane (Sonny) of Louisville, Lori Hurt Scilluffo (Jim) of Lakeland Florida, Pamela Maples Penix (Mark) of Lakeland Florida. He is also survived by his aunt Betty Shroyer and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of extended family & friends.
Lonnie worked at H. J. Scheirich Cabinet Company in Louisville as a lead man. He drove long distance transport trucks for Burlington Motors and later worked as dispatch. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966- honorably discharged in 1972. He was a 20 year member of Spirit Life Church and a Beloved Member of The Biscuit Boys.
Lonnie was dearly loved for his genuine kindness and sense of humor. He never met a stranger; always encouraging people with light-hearted stories. Lonnie had a belly-laugh that was contagious. When he laughed, you laughed. Known for his expert whistling he’d wake up every morning whistling a tune even on days he felt bad.
He was raised in a family that loved music. They often gathered on Saturday afternoons in his dad's basement to play their guitars for hours on end followed by a fish dinner from Highland Park Lodge.
Lonnie was born Again into the family of God in the fall of 2007 while studying the Bible sitting around the kitchen table with the two women he loved most in the world, his sweet Dianna and his mother. From that day on Lonnie continually and consistently sought the Presence of God in his life.
It was that Presence that filled his entire being with joy unspeakable and full of glory. It was Presence that saw him through heartbreak, deep sorrows, and many trials. It was that Presence that brought him supernatural peace that passes all understanding and…. It was that same Presence that led Lonnie to his eternal home.
Lonnie Hurt's legacy of love, hope, and unwavering faith will be honored and remembered at his church filled with those that cherished him.
