Lola Darleen Rhodes, née Moore, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, in Murray, Kentucky, at the age of 80. Born on November 1, 1945, in Louisville, Kentucky, Lola’s life was marked by kindness, generosity, and a deep devotion to her family and faith.
Lola’s journey began in Louisville, where she was raised by her parents, Andy Payton Moore and Mary Frances Nichols Moore, who preceded her in death. From a young age, Lola embodied grace and warmth, qualities that would define her relationships and her approach to life.
She was blessed with a close-knit family. Lola is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Charles Rhodes Sr., who survives her and with whom she shared many cherished years. Her memory will be treasured by her beloved children: Bryon Hutchins, Eric Hutchins and his wife Sara, Tonya McCarthy, and Charles Rhodes, Jr. and his wife Susan. Lola’s legacy continues through her eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
Lola also leaves behind her siblings, Norvel Moore (Pauline) and Marlene Moore Dowell and her husband Phillip, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Kjeston Marie Byrd and her husband Dewayne, and her sister-in-law Pauline, the late wife of Norvel.
Faith was a guiding light for Lola; she was an active member of Grace Praise and Worship Church before moving to Murray, finding comfort and community there. She nourished her spirit through reading, often seeking both wisdom and entertainment within the pages of her favorite books. An avid traveler, Lola delighted in exploring new places and making lasting memories with those she loved.
Family, faith, and adventure were at the heart of Lola’s life. Her genuine affection and unwavering support enriched the lives of those around her. She greeted each day with gratitude and approached each challenge with quiet strength. Lola’s gentle presence and caring spirit will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance to celebrate Lola’s life at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, 235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. A graveside service will take place the following day, Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at Resthaven Cemetery, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218. Family and friends are invited to meet at the entrance of the cemetery by 9:50 a.m. in order to process to the gravesite.
Lola Darleen Rhodes touched many lives during her time on earth. As her loved ones join together to bid farewell, they do so with gratitude for the years shared, the lessons learned, and the love that will forever bind them to her memory.
