Lisa Michele Hassett, 67, of Southern Indiana, passed away suddenly on Friday, August 15, 2025. She was born on April 10, 1958, in Fresno, California, to Patricia Kor and Buddy Trenier.

Lisa was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Michael Hassett, whom she married on May 16, 1982. Together they raised two children, Chris (Theresa) and Brian (Alexandra), and she found her greatest joy in her five grandchildren: Hannah, Jensen, Kayla, Jackson, and Josiah.

A strong Navy wife, Lisa kept her family anchored during decades of moves—California, Japan, back to California, Florida, and finally Southern Indiana, where she and Michael built their forever home and looked forward to traveling to visit family.

Lisa’s life was defined by service, advocacy, and love for people. She was a lead ombudsman for the U.S. Navy, serving as an advocate for sailors and their families and as a sexual assault victim advocate, for which she received many honors. She also had a passion for event planning and worked with the Santa Rosa Island Authority and the Pensacola Beach Chamber of Commerce, where she coordinated the Blue Angels Air Show, Blues on the Beach, and other world-class events on the Gulf Coast.

She was deeply compassionate and endlessly generous, often described as “the social worker no one asked for, but everyone needed.” She had a way of becoming everyone’s mom at one point or another, welcoming the lonely, feeding the hungry, and making sure no one was left out of a Thanksgiving table or family gathering.

Her faith in Jesus guided her whole life. As a little girl she dreamed of becoming a nun, and though her path took a different direction, her deep spirituality never wavered. She loved her church family at Vineyard Church Southern Indiana, where she used her spiritual gifts of discernment and prophetic encouragement to love others well.

Lisa also carried a late-in-life passion for fighting human trafficking and was in the process of planning a fall awareness event with A21. Her family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to A21.org.

She will be remembered for her kindness, her humor, her fierce love for her family, and her open door to anyone in need. Those who knew her will remember her generosity, her laughter, and her stubborn insistence that she might have been part psychic, or at least a little bit Jewish.

Lisa is survived by her husband Michael, her children and grandchildren, her mother Patricia Kor, and countless others who loved her.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at 12:30 PM at Vineyard Church Southern Indiana, 727 Rolling Creek Drive, New Albany, IN 47150.
