Linda “Lyn” F. Gauthier, 79, passed away on May 31, 2026, at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center. Lyn was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she spent most of her life. After graduating from Woodlawn High School, she entered the United States Navy, serving as a medical technologist for three and a half years during the Vietnam conflict. Following her military service, she returned home and continued working in the medical field. Later in life she relocated to Louisville, Kentucky, to be closer to her family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Earl A. Gauthier; her mother, Faye Holyfield Holder; and her stepfather, James Holder. She always claimed her niece, nephew, and great-nephews as her own. She is survived by her sister, Sue Gauthier Daniel (Russ); her nephew, Michael Scott Daniel (Kathleen); her niece, Casey Daniel Payne (Jay); and four great-nephews who brought her immense joy: Riggs Michael Daniel, Holder Scott Daniel, Henry “Hank” Daniel Poole, and Beau Daniel Poole. Although her immediate family was small, Lyn was surrounded by a wide circle of friends whom she considered family.
Lyn devoted her full attention to a few passions in life. She was well-versed in college athletics and was the ultimate LSU fan. Lyn loved being outdoors. She enjoyed hunting and spending time in the woods, a passion she passed on to her nephew, Scott.
Ultimately, Lyn was most at home on a fishing boat with a rod and reel in her hand. She spent many days on Lake Toledo Bend with Granny and Papaw and even convinced Casey to learn how to bait her own hook. Lyn was one of the founders of the Louisiana Bass N’ Gals organization, where she competed in tournaments and helped organize fishing events throughout Louisiana and Texas.
Lyn was an ordained minister and a member of the Metropolitan Community Church. She loved her community and was always looking for ways to help her neighbors. She served on the Ethics Committee for the City of West Buechel and was later elected to the West Buechel City Council.
Lyn treasured her years of service in the United States Navy and always responded to expressions of gratitude with the humble words, “It was my honor.” The pride she felt in serving her country remained with her throughout her life. She will be laid to rest at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, Kentucky.
