Linda Kay (McCown) Hobson, 73, passed away on August 21, 2016. She was a long-time resident of New Albany, Indiana, and one of Jehovah's Witnesses for over 50 years. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gary L. Hobson; daughter Erin DePriest (James); step-daughter, LeAnne Beatty (Kenny); granddaughters Gwen and Claire Bowman and Stephanie Beatty; sisters Sandra Sharp (Bob) and Jennifer Richardson (John); and many nieces and nephews who considered her their favorite aunt. Great-nieces and nephews also knew their Aunt Linda well.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sarah McCown; brother, Richard Gary McCown; and sisters Josephine Cantrell and Esther Jessey (Gary).
Linda was a published author, having her short stories in magazines and newspapers in Virginia and Kentucky areas. She at one time worked for New Albany Schools, assisting children with reading difficulties to help them succeed in learning. Her greatest teaching work was, however, her door-to-door ministry as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, helping many to learn the hope set out in the Bible for a paradise earth where "righteousness will dwell." In the last several years, she was limited but still tried to help ones that she could. Her favorite Scriptures were Psalms 4:8, "In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For you yourself alone, O Jehovah, make me dwell in security" and 2 Peter 3:13, "But there are new heavens and a new earth that we are awaiting according to his promise, and in these righteousness is to dwell."
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Memorial Service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (8409 County Line Road, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172). All friends and relatives are invited to attend. Private burial will take place at Friendship Cemetery in New Albany.
