Lester Eugene Washington, born on October 5, 1950, in Fort Lauderdale, FL, passed away on July 30, 2026, in Louisville, KY. Lester’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and the enduring strength of family.

Lester’s academic journey led him to the University of Louisville, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree, laying the foundation for a remarkable career. Proudly serving as an Army Veteran, Lester continued his service to the nation by dedicating many years to the Army Corps of Engineers, eventually retiring with honor.

Deeply well loved by all who knew him, Lester was known not only for his devotion to his work but also for his vibrant involvement in the lives of family and friends. He especially found joy in coaching track and field, touching countless lives with his encouragement and wisdom. Outside of his professional and coaching endeavors, Lester enjoyed the simpler pleasures of life—watching Westerns and feeding the squirrels and birds, moments of tranquility that reflected his kind heart and appreciation for the world around him.

Lester’s proudest accomplishments were deeply personal: his steadfast 50-year marriage with Chaneta, and his role as a father and grandfather. The love and guidance he gave his family are lasting legacies, cherished by all who were fortunate to know him.

Though Lester has departed this earthly life, his memory will endure in the hearts of those whose lives he brightened through his unwavering love, quiet strength, and generous spirit.

Lester is survived by his wife of 50 years Chaneta Washington, children, Lester Eugene Washington, Jr. and Carisa Washington-Hines; grandchildren, Ta'Zhae Washington, Torrey Thomas, Amya' Montgomery, Myles Washington, Rhyan Hines and Donovan Hines; great-grandchildren, Layla Washington, Tailor Thomas, Xavier Robinson, Ellis Robinson and Isaac Robinson and a host of siblings, cousins and friends.
