Lester C. O'Banion

November 27, 1921 — February 25, 2022

Lester C. O'Banion, 100, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away Friday, February 25, 2022.
He was born and raised in Hart County, KY on November 27, 1921 to Ethridge and Mary (Thompson) O'Banion. He was the youngest of seven children.

He served in the Army Air Corps in WWII and the U.S. Air Force in the Korean Conflict. He had a 42 year career working for the Louisville Railway Company which became the Louisville Transit company, then TARC. He was the President of Local 1447, the transit workers union for many years.

He was a faithful christian at the Douglas Hills Church of Christ. For many years he served as an elder at the South End Church of Christ. He was always cheerful, kind, and a godly example. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is preceded in death by his wife Mary O'Banion, an infant child, a grandson, Chase O'Banion, his parents and siblings.

He is survived by, a son, Dr. David O'Banion (Wendy), a granddaughter, Whitney Reeves (Craig), and a great-grandson Chase Reeves.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 3, 2021 at Newcomer-East Louisville (235 Juneau Drive). His funeral service will be at 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Internment at Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery.
