February 17, 1934 — June 18, 2016

Lester B. "Sonny" Murphy, Sr., age 82 of Shelbyville, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2016. He was the former owner of Murphy Concrete Company. He was an avid UofK fan and was a member of Poplar Level Baptist Church. Sonny loved his church and his church family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella; daughters, Sue Gnagie and Melissa Murphy.

Sonny is survived by his loving children, Mary Druck (Steve), Linda Johnson (Donnie), Lester Murphy, Jr. (Cindy), Ricky Murphy (Kim) and John Murphy (Shelley); 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Carl Murphy (LeVada) and Betty Murphy; and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be 2-8pm on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown. A celebration of Sonny's life will be held at 11am on Thursday, June 23rd at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Penn Run Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the great people of Hosparus and all the care they provided.
