Leslie "Les" W. Barnes, born on October 4, 1975, in New Albany, Indiana, passed away on January 25, 2026, in Salem, Indiana. A devoted family man and a friend to many, Les is remembered for his profound love for his family and his zest for life.
Les cherished his time spent with his children, family, and friends. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Les had a passion for working on cars, fishing, camping, and embracing the great outdoors, reflecting his spirited connection with nature and adventure. One of his proudest accomplishments was the time he spent with his family and friends, always prioritizing their wellbeing and happiness.
He is survived by his loving children, Kaylin (Hunter) Overton, Emily Barnes, Conner Barnes, and Brookelyn Barnes, grandchildren, Maverick and Sterling Overton, siblings: Joe (Missy) Barnes, Chris Barnes, Deanna (Jeremiah) Russell, Holly Nicholson, and Alecia (Brandon) Ditsch. The bonds of family extended to include several nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who were fortunate to know him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lester Barnes, and his grandmother, Jewel Cavins. Les's memory will live on through the love and laughter he shared, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation and funeral services for Les will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, Indiana. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 6:00 PM. The family invites all who knew and loved Les to join them in paying their respects and celebrating his life.
