Leonard "Len" Estel Salings, 78, of Louisville, Kentucky entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 11, 2016. Len was born on May 21, 1937 in Edmonson County, Kentucky, to Elnora and Eugene Estel Salings. Len's family moved to Louisville when he was seven years old. At the age of seventeen, Len joined the U.S. Army. He recieved six months basic training at Fort Knox and was stationed for two years in Germany and six months in Fort Carson, Colorado. After discharge he was a hard working employee at Fawcett Haynes Printing Company and then at Louisville Gas and Electric until he retired in 1996.

Len was a man of many interests and skills. He was an avid sportsman who loved to fish and hunt. He was a championship horseshoe pitcher and bowler on many leagues over forty years and later in life he discovered corn hole pitching. Len had his own pool table and enjoyed playing eight ball with his family and friends. With more time on his hands after retirement, Len liked to work word puzzles, write gospel songs, and add coins and decorative knives to his collections.

Len was baptized at the age of fifty. He developed an enduring faith in the Lord and an even stronger commitment to being there for his children and family. He was a member of the former Valley Station Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, drove the church van and helped lead the single adult ministry.

Len was preceded in death by his parents, Elnora Rich Salings and Eugene Estel Salings; wives, Thelma Jean Little and Carolyn Sue Heath;three sisters, Nelsie Salings, Glenda Mae Thompson and Jessie Green; and one brother, Harrison "Muggs" Salings.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Salings; three daughters, Kathy Lynn Locke (Jimmy), Angela Jean Salings and Tammy Sue Scriber; three sons, Richard Lee Salings (Marilyn), Mark Anthony Salings (Emmakay) and James Salings; one step daughter, Holly Almon (James); one sister, Oma Baker; one brother, Ronald Salings (Sheila); 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren with two on the way; and a great-great grandson.

A service to celebrate Len's life will be conducted on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. EST at Newcomer Funeral Home Southwest Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway with burial at 2:00 p.m. CST at Poteet Rich Cemetery in Edmonson County, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 4-8 on Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
