Leon August Schindler, 85, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. He was an electrician for Paramount Plywood and a driver for 3K Machinery. Leon was a long-time member of St. Mary's Navilleton Catholic Church and a member of the High Caliber Sportsman Club.
He was born on March 26, 1934, in Floyd County, Indiana, to the late Martin and Irma (Sprigler) Schindler. Leon was also preceded in death by his wife, Cathy (Poe) Schindler; daughter, Anita Olliges; son-in-law, Chris Olliges; sisters, Mary Wolz and Erma Walter; and daughter-in-law, Liz Schindler.
Leon is survived by his children, Jean Minter (Robert), Leon "Wayne" Schindler, Kathi Klotz (Martin), and Edward Schindler; stepchildren, Billy Newkirk, Jr. (Angela), Jeffery Newkirk, Danny Newkirk, and Dana Chappell (Mike); siblings, Martha Fessel, Judy Kruer, Ricky Philpot, Dottie Thomas (Jim "Tall"), Elizabeth Timperman (Ed), Martin Schindler (Alice), Jimmy Schindler (Barbara), and Calvin Schindler (Vicki); brother-in-law, George Wolz; 9 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2019, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Tuesday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary's Navilleton Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
