Leon Ray "Smitty" Smith, age 88 of Louisville, slipped away peacefully into the night on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and a Mason. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, member of VFW#1170, Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion GI-Joe Post, and a proud member of the VFW Honor Guard Rifle Team. An electrician by trade, he worked for L&N and Brown and Williamson for many years. He was the former owner of the Fox Grove Gallery in Middletown. He loved pull-tabs, dancing and his special times with his family at the VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Frank and Alpha Wheeler Smith; and his brother, James Albert Smith.
Smitty is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Phylliss Ann Smith; daughter, Donna Mollyhorn (Gary); sons, Terry Smith (Tammy) and John Smith (Pam); grandchildren, Kimmy Dixon (Joey), Cary Mollyhorn (Erin), Aaron Smith, Aerial Smith; great-grandchild, Brandon Mollyhorn; brother, Eugene Smith (Thelma); beloved dog, Dudley; many nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 2-8pm Friday, January 8, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown. A celebration of Smitty's life will be 1pm on Saturday, January 9th at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Middletown Historic Cemetery with military honors.
