Lee Earl Shumaker, age 70, entered the gates of Heaven on July 22nd with his loving family by his side. He was born in New Albany, Indiana on April 20th, 1947 to Donald and Bonnie (Bruce) Shumaker. He was married 49 years to the love of his life, Ruth (Heitkemper) Shumaker. They raised two beautiful daughters in Georgetown, Indiana. They enjoyed camping, attending family sporting events, and spending time with loved ones.
Lee graduated from Georgetown High School and furthered his education in drafting and engineering. Before retirement, he was a specialized welder at Whayne Supply Company in Louisville and a rental property owner. Lee was a member of St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Bonnie Shumaker, parent-in-laws, John and Mildred Heitkemper, and brothers-in-law, Stephen Becht Sr. & Kendall Menges. Lee is survived by his wife, Ruth (Heitkemper) Shumaker; daughters, Stacy (Nick) Mayfield and Crystal (Jamie) Schindler; his four grandchildren Nicholis & Levi Mayfield, and Landon & Kylie Schindler; family friend, Sydney Willis; and sister Connie (Shumaker) Becht.
Lee adored spending time with his family and friends. He was witty, cracked jokes, and loved to make his grandchildren laugh. He enjoyed chocolate ice cream, ordering from Amazon, and driving the Mercedes with his bride by his side.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). His Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wedsnesday, July 26, 2017 at St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for Lee's grandchildren's college funds.
