Layton Brown Carr, 74, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026. Brown was a loving and devoted husband, father, Granddaddy, and brother. He was an avid outdoorsman and had a passion for being near the water, especially kayaking and fishing. Brown's house boat was his happy place, his home away from home. He spent countless hours making cherished memories with family and friends there. Brown enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, whether it be camping, traveling out west to National Parks and even exploring Europe. A special tradition that Brown and his family hold dear to their hearts are the special trips that each granddaughter embarked on during their eighth birthdays. He was a true hobbyist and enjoyed caining chairs, making kites, leatherwork, tying flies, sewing canvas projects, and working with his hands. Brown dedicated more than 50 years to the computer industry working at various companies such as Microsoft, TRW, and the American Printing House for the Blind. He will be lovingly remembered for his kind nature, infectious smile, and sense of humor. Brown will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
He was born on January 8, 1952 in Middlesboro, Kentucky to Arch and Ruth (Brown) Carr. He is preceded in death by his father, Arch Carr; and his mother, Ruth Carr.
Brown is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cheryl Carr; daughter, Kendra Carr (Daniel) Waddell; son, Travis Layton (Emily) Carr; brother, Arch M. (Sherri) Carr; sisters, Ann C. (James Carl) Shumate, Sally (Mark) Smith; grandchildren, Sequoia Waddell, Amelie Waddell, Maddie Carr; as well as a host of extended family and friends to cherish his loving memory forever.
The family will be hosting a private celebration of life at a later date.
The family requests that contributions in Brown's memory be made to the UofL Health Foundation.
