LaVerne Katherine Craig, 98, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on January 25, 2018.
On a Sunday in August a little girl was born. Although we weren't around that 10th day of August back in 1919, we are sure that she came to the world with the same feisty, passionate sprit she carried through life.
She lived through 2 World Wars where she helped the war effort during WWII by making parachutes, the Great Depression, and 18 different presidents. There was so much change in her lifetime. She was born before "talkies" and rotary phones; when bread cost less than a dime a loaf and a house cost less than today's computers do. At a time when penicillin hadn't even been heard of yet, only the strong survived. She gave that strength to her daughters who passed it on to their children.
Being part Cherokee was important to her and she took pride in those roots. She loved her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all her heart and beamed every time she told anyone how many of each she had. She will be missed dearly, but we know she is dancing with the angels and singing with the heavenly choir.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rosabelle (Outlaw) Finch. Her sister Faye Deaton and brother Frank Finch Jr. Her first husband Elton Sowers, second husband Raleigh Smith, and third husband Charles Craig.
She is survived by her daughters Gloria Foster, Rosemary Jackson, Patricia Grant, Michelle (Ken) McHenery, Gail (Dick) Wilder, Barbara (Jerry) Knights, Robin (Scot) Williams, 24 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren.
Her spirit will be forever fixed in our hearts.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of the funeral ceremony at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243).
