Laura Marie Shein, affectionately known as “Laurie”, passed away on January 3, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. Laura was born in Louisville, Kentucky on November 25, 1955, to Dr. Melvin and Lillian Shein.
Laura was a fun-loving and devoted mother, sister, daughter, and friend. She graduated from Ballard High School and the University of Louisville with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. As a child, Laura was a rambunctious, brave, energetic little girl. She never left any stone unturned or trail unexplored. She would take her older sister, Denise Shein, on adventures that neither knew what to expect. Hand in hand, the two of them, as sisters and best friends, could conquer anything together. Traveling was always a passion for Laura. She would travel with her parents and sister all over the country. Vacationing in Mexico with her family was always a fond memory. As an adult, Laura dreamed of starting her own family. She made that dream come true and had four children; Zack Moody, Nathan Moody, Joe Moody, and Megan Ann Shein. Laura always said when it came to them, she created her best friends. To say she is the perfect mom and so much more, is truly an understatement. Every milestone, accomplishment, holiday, and special occasion were always celebrated. Laura never missed one of her children’s events. She would always find a way to get as close as she could to take pictures, beam with the proudest smile and wave, so she knew her babies were loved. With four rebellious children, she had her hands full as a single mother in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, but handled it all with grace and class. She taught them how to be strong, independent, hardworking, loving, and honest people. There was truly nothing she would not do for her babies. Eventually, she met and married Howard Lee. Howard brought a sense of peace and stability to both Laura and the children that they never had before. They enjoyed going to the boats together and laughing the night away.
Laura enjoyed gambling because she had already won in life with her family. As the years passed, Laura’s health started to decline. Diagnosed with colon cancer in 2022, the family rallied around her. Unfortunately, the untimely passings of her sons took a toll on her health as well. As the disease progressed, Laura enjoyed spending time with her friends, family, and pets. Laura will always be remembered for her beauty, sense of humor, quick wit, calming soul, and loving attitude. Thank you for being our mom, sister, and best friend. We lost an angel on earth, but Heaven has gained the best angel. Until we meet again, may she Rest In Peace.
Laura is preceded in death by her sons, Zack Moody, Nathan Moody and Joe Moody; her parents, Dr. Melvin and Lillian Shein; and her husband, Howard Lee.
Laura is survived by her daughter, Megan Ann Shein; sister, Denise Shein (Debra Dickerson); and many, many friends. She is also deeply missed by her pets that she cherished.
Visitation will be 1-2pm on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Duncan Memorial Chapel, 5600 Old Floydsburg Rd, Crestwood, KY. 40014 with a celebration of Laura's life to follow at 2pm. Burial will be in Floydsburg Cemetery.
