Larry Claxton Trollinger left this life and entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior on September 1, 2026. Larry was born August 2, 1941, in Pampa, TX, to Cecil Clyde and Vasa Viola Mitchusson.
After graduating from Pampa High School, he attended Frank Phillips Junior College for two years and transferred to Texas Tech University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with Honors in 1964. While at Texas Tech, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Phyllis “DeAnne” Thornton on August 4, 1961. Larry went on to have a successful career in management with DuPont, specializing in oversight of various aspects of their chemical plants. He served at DuPont plants in Victoria, TX; Wilmington, DE; Fayetteville, NC; Richmond, VA; Orange TX; and Louisville, KY, where he retired in 2001.
Larry was a devoted husband and father to his two children, Jeffrey Kent and Susan Gail. One of seven children, Larry loved his extended family and traveled back to his and DeAnne’s hometown of Pampa, TX, each summer with their children to visit with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He enjoyed woodworking and created beautiful furniture for his home and toys for his granddaughters. He was generous and fun-loving, always with a joke or a smile to brighten any day. He never met a sweet treat he didn’t like and often took his family out for milkshakes! After retirement, he enjoyed time with his beloved family, both near and far. A wonderful “Papaw," he was adored by his five granddaughters. His faith and love for his family never wavered. He was a member of Southeast Christian Church where he volunteered in several ministries. He was a good friend to many, keeping in touch with friends from all of his different life stages and locations.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; sisters (Beth Mays, LaDon Spradlin, and Phyllis Gardner) and brother (Jerry Trollinger). He is survived by his loving wife, DeAnne Trollinger of Louisville, KY; son, Jeffrey Trollinger (Deanne) of Winston Salem, NC; daughter Susan Trollinger Merrill (Timothy) of Louisville, KY; grandchildren Abigail “Abbie” Deanne Trollinger, Emily Marlowe Merrill, Sara Kent Trollinger Donnalley (Matthew), Elizabeth DeAnne Merrill, and Grace Margaret Merrill; brothers Gayle Trollinger of Pampa, TX, and Bobby Trollinger (Susan) of Amarillo, TX; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Chapel in the Woods (1407 Moser Road) at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 10th with visitation to follow in the Fireside Room at Southeast Christian Church (920 Blankenbaker Parkway) from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.
