Larry Ray Hibbs

Larry Ray Hibbs, 84, passed away on September 23, 2026. Born on October 22, 1941, Larry lived a life marked by humor, creativity, and a gift for connecting with others. He never met a stranger, could hold a conversation with anyone and everyone, and was known for making people smile. Funny by nature and generous in spirit, he loved telling jokes and especially enjoyed making children laugh by pulling quarters out of their ears.

Larry devoted 30 years of service to Ford Motor Company. Beyond his career, he shared his many talents in remarkable ways. He was a magician who performed at night clubs and birthday parties, and he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He also taught many people the art of magic, passing along both skill and wonder. Larry was an airbrush artist who made T-shirts, and he was also a wood carver with the Fall City Carving Club. His creative hands and lively imagination left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He was also an avid U of L fan and found joy in the things he loved most, including eating, wood carving and building and repairing computers for friends and family. Whether he was entertaining a crowd, creating something by hand, or helping someone with a computer, Larry gave his time freely and brought warmth and personality to everything he did.

Larry is survived by his children, Mark Hibbs, Mendee (Marty) Hale, and Rebecca (Jeremy) Wade. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Doug, Tiffany, Kendra, Savannah, Chance, and Hayley, as well as his great-grandchildren, Emily, Lilly, Trenton, Tristan, Leonna, Novali, Steven, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Daryl Hibbs and Richard Hibbs. The love of his family was an important part of his life, and his memory will continue through each of them.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Maxine Hibbs, mother, Dorothy Vernon; his father, Clifford Hibbs; and his brother, Michael Hibbs.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville. A graveside service will follow at Fairmount Cemetery on Bardstown Road in Louisville, Kentucky.

Larry Ray Hibbs will be remembered for his laughter, his kindness, his creativity, and the easy way he made others feel welcome. His life touched many, and his memory will be cherished by family and friends for years to come.
