Larry Badon, born on June 6, 1957, in Tylertown, Mississippi, passed away peacefully in Louisville, Kentucky, on July 17, 2026. He was 69 years old. Larry lived a full and meaningful life, marked by a kind spirit, a love for family, and a boundless generosity towards others.

A proud student of Shawnee High School, Larry's formative years in education helped shape the affable and hardworking man he would become. Soon after, he began a career in food service at the Norton Healthcare system, where his strong work ethic and friendly demeanor touched the lives of many colleagues and visitors. Larry was known for never meeting a stranger; he had an innate gift for conversation and made everyone feel valued, whether they were a close friend or someone he had just encountered.

Larry’s passions extended well beyond the workplace. He was an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying baseball, basketball, and football with an abiding enthusiasm. Time spent fishing and taking long walks brought him great peace and offered cherished moments of reflection and camaraderie with those he loved. Larry found true contentment in the simple pleasures of life and believed in savoring each moment.

In 1981, Larry married Shirley Ann Mulligan, beginning a new chapter defined by deep connection and mutual support. Family was always at the heart of Larry’s world. His two daughters, Octavia Cunningham (Kevin) and Jessica Badon, stand as a testament to his love, humor, and unwavering presence as a father. His devotion only grew as he embraced the joys of being a grandfather to Kayla Bluitt (Benjamin), Amalyah Cunningham, Kavia Cunningham, and Nia Crosby. Larry was also a beloved brother to Jeffery Badon, and his warmth extended to other cherished family members, including his aunt, Julia Grice.

Larry’s memory is also held closely by many, even as he joins those who have gone before him: his loving mother, Lexie Badon; sisters, Danny and Mary Badon; his brother, George “Pee Wee” Kelly Badon; and his uncle, Leo Grice. Their memories live on through the stories and shared laughter that defined their relationships.

To all who knew him, Larry leaves a legacy of kindness, approachability, and steadfast support. Whether it was through a heartfelt conversation, a walking adventure, grilling out, or cheering on a favorite team, Larry made a lasting impact that will be deeply missed.

Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Larry’s life and honor his memory. Visitation will be held on August 2, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Grace Temple Church, 970 Palatka Road, Louisville, KY 40214. A funeral service will follow at the same location from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
