Laphena Ruth Fleig

LaPhena Ruth "Granny" Fleig, 80, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on December 19th, 2016. She was born on August 30th, 1936, in Harlan County, Kentucky to the late William and Nancy (McCreary) Johnson. Ruth later moved to Louisville where she began working at Kroger. This is where she met the love of her life, Joseph "Joe" Fleig. They were married on November 16th, 1957 and were married for 56 years. They enjoyed feeding the birds, gardening and spending time with family. Joe preceded her in death on April 19th, 2014.

Along with her parents and husband, Ruth is preceded in death by her brothers, Bob and Arthur Johnson, and her grandson, Timothy Alan Boyd.

Ruth is survived by her children, Mary (Tommy) West, Rebecca (Dennis) Boyd, Benida (James) Crask, and Joe (Angie) Fleig; grandchildren, Cortney (Dale) Shewmaker, Chris West, Jennifer (Justin) Crawford, Sean West, Sheryl (Justin) Woods, Kathleen (Jordon) Thornberry, Rachel (Ryan) Setaccioli, Hannah Crask, Jessica (Michael) Fleig, Joseph Fleig, Samantha (James) Fleig, Joshua Fleig, and Sara Fleig; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Henry Shewmaker, Jackson Crawford, Evelyn Thornberry, Layla, Emma, and Paisley Payton, and 2 more on the way; brother, Claude H. Johnson and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville Chapel (10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY 40272). Her Funeral Mass will be on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church (5431 Johnsontown Rd, Louisville, KY 40272) with burial to follow at Bethany Memorial Cemetery (10917 Dixie Hwy, Valley Station, KY 40272).
