Lance Ireland, 68, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on October 9, 2026. He was born on September 8, 1958, in Washington, D.C.
Lance was a graduate of New Albany High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University. That paved the way to a long career working as a mechanical design engineer for the Honeywell Corporation in Cincinnati Ohio. He moved back to his home state of Indiana and worked his last few years for Fortna. And although he performed many functions in his career, his true passion lied in innovation and design. He was known as a hardworking man whose intelligence and deep understanding of technology left a lasting impression on those around him. He loved technology and enjoyed collecting the latest and greatest gadgets he could find. He was also very quick to happily assist family and friends anytime computer or electronics help was needed. He loved animals, exemplified by his undying love for his faithful, feline companion, Socks. Not one time did Lance ever visit anyone without at least a mention, if not a whole anecdote about his beloved pet. He was also a great lover of cars.
But the true essence of Lance, and what he will be remembered for most is his caring nature and generosity. As family and friends will attest, Lance always made time to help anyone who was in need. He was known to help people he didn’t even know, often providing assistance to those less fortunate than himself.
Lance was a man of extreme faith. He attended church services religiously, most recently Eastside Christian, and lived the life of a true believer with religious reminders throughout his home.
Those who knew Lance will also remember him as a devoted husband, a compassionate brother, a loving uncle, and a loyal friend. His sharp mind, steady character, and thoughtful presence made him someone others could count on and admire. He will be remembered with affection and gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing him. And although he will be missed dearly, we take solace that he will be reunited with his loving wife Michelle "Shelly".
Lance was preceded in death by his wife, Michelle Ireland, and by his parents, Burlin Ireland and Shirley Ireland. He is survived by his sister Camille Koebel and her husband, John; his sister Shelley Ireland; and his brother Robert “Bob” Ireland. He also leaves behind his nephew Cody Staton; his nieces Lea Jones, Chelsea Hornback, and Amy Brandt; his nephew Michael Ireland; and his devoted cat, Socks.
Visitation will be held on October 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, Indiana 47150.
