Kym Marie Combs, 59, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019.
Kym was a teacher with the Jefferson County Public Schools, and the Archdiocese of Louisville, with her career spanning 30 years. In 1992 she was the recipient of the Richardson High School Most Influential Teaching Award, In 2001 she was the recipient of The James Madison Fellowship for the state of Kentucky, 2004 she was a National Academy Scholar, 2004 and 2005 The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) District and State Citizenship Teacher Award, 2004 and 2006 Aegon Teacher Award, 2009 and 2010 Walmart Teacher Award, 2014 Hilliard Lyons Excellence Award in recognition of outstanding teaching performance, and a multiple year honoree of Who's Who of American Teachers.
She was born on April 7, 1960 in Logansport, Indiana to Jack and Jean Pennington. She is preceded in death by her Parents, and Father-In-law, Carlson Combs.
Kym is survived by her loving Husband of 34 years, Garry Wayne Combs, but were together for 40 years, Daughter, Katherine Jean Combs, Future Son-In Law, Michael Craven, Sisters, Jacqueline (Norman) Smith, and Margaret "Mickey" (Martin) Pennington-Moore, Brothers, David (Jill) Pennington, and Adrian Pennington, Mother-In-Law, Sylvia Combs, Brother-In-Law's, Michael Combs, and Ronnie Combs, and numerous Nieces and Nephews, and Great Nieces and Nephews.
A gathering for all of Kym's family and friends will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). A celebration of her life will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the funeral home.
