Kimie Phillips was born in Okugan City, Okayama Prefecture, Honshu, Japan on September 20, 1928 and is the daughter of Masuto Takemoto and Yakiko Okazaki, loving spouse, mom, grandmother and great grandmother, long time Valley Station resident, devout Christian and member of Valley View Church, teenage survivor of the WWII US aerial bombing of her home in Takamatsu, Shikoku, Japan; post WWII wife of the late US Army Master Sergeant Victor B. Phillips, and thirty year retired employee of Pillsbury peacefully passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020.
Her life was characterized by a proud and patriotic sense of earning her naturalized US Citizenship, untiring belief in God and that with hard work and a unquenchable thirst for education, formal or otherwise, set an example for her children they too could achieve unbelievable heights of success. Her genuine love of all those she came in contact with was contagious and she never ever met a stranger. Whether she was riding a bike for several years many miles with a child in tow to a local grocery store during her early married years to finding Christianity after having practiced the Shinto faith and finally proudly earning her drivers license she kept striving towards religious and self-improvement to include enhancing her overall English skills enrolling in and nearly receiving a associate degree in her late 80s. Whenever you saw her she was always perfectly groomed or attired and loved her hair being styled weekly and enjoyed the neighborhood conversations there as well.
Kimie Phillips' loved her family and her family legacy consists of her late husband Victor B. Phillips , daughter Linda Phillips, sons Joseph Phillips(Jackie), Arthur Phillips (Sharon) and Douglas Phillips(Vickie). Grandchildren: Melanie Staats, Melissa Raymond(Lance), Billie Rae Robinson(Josh), Victor Grant and Kyle Grant and Major US Army Joseph Phillips Jr(LTC Kate), late Jenavieve Phillips and Jonathan Phillips, Derek Phillips, Adam Phillips,US Army Specialist Zachary Phillips( Courtney) and Matthew Phillips. Great grandchildren: US Army Specialist Promotable to Sergeant Savannah Blaz, Carlie Staats Adam Phillips Jr, Ava Carr, Ava Phillips and Lia Phillips and Bella Phillips.
In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to the Vietnam Veterans of America. Services will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home- Southwest Chapel for immediate family members only due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions. Graveside services will follow at Beth Haven Cemetery off Dixie Hwy for immediate family members only. A celebration of Kimie Phillip's life will occur at a later date with more information to follow.
