Kevin Joe Southern, 52, of Georgetown, Indiana, passed away peacefully on his couch, Thursday, January 30, 2020. He retired from the National Guard and served his country on several deployments overseas with the Army and Navy. Kevin was an employee at the Floyd County Road Department. He was selfless, always putting others before himself. Kevin enjoyed John Wayne movies, muscle cars, NASCAR, Saturday morning cartoons, and watching Charlie Brown with his granddaughter.
He was born on July 15, 1967, in New Albany, Indiana, to George "Randy" and Beverly (Swartz) Southern. Along with his parents, Kevin is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Bynum) Southern; children, Andrew Jones, Bradley Jones, Jonathan Southern, Joshua Southern, and Jessica Giles (Austin); grandchildren, Morgan and Maisen Stephens; siblings, Keith Southern (Tammy), Holly Grider, and Stephen Southern; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Abram.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2020, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Tuesday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at New Albany National Cemetery.
