Listen to Obituary

Kenneth Shane “Woody” McCubbins, born June 9, 1962, passed away on September 11, 2026.

Woody will be remembered as a funny man who was always enjoyable to be around, someone whose presence brought ease and laughter to those who knew him. He carried with him a warmth that left a lasting impression, and he was regarded with genuine affection. It is a fitting tribute to say that no one who knew him had a bad thing to say about him.

A graduate of Durrett High School, Woody held close the place that shaped him. He loved being raised in Highland Park and enjoyed carrying with him a deep connection to the community and memories of home. That sense of place remained part of who he was throughout his life.

Music was one of Woody’s great joys. He enjoyed listening to and singing karaoke, especially Rock and Roll and Country music. He had an impressive knowledge of songs, singers, songwriters, actors, and films, and could readily tell you who wrote a song, who sang it, or what movie an actor appeared in. He also loved relaxing and watching movies, cheering on the Louisville Cardinals and he appreciated the simple pleasure of an ice-cold beer.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane McCubbins; his father, Chris McCubbins; and his brother, John McCubbins.

Woody is survived by his brother, Tony McCubbins and Judy, his sister, Sue Ann Mahoney along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. May their memories of him bring comfort in the days ahead, and may the laughter, music, and easy companionship he shared remain a lasting blessing to all who loved him.
