Kenneth J. Smith, Sr., 71, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana passed away on Friday, May 22, 2015. Kenny began his career with the former Starlight Cabinet Company. He was the owner of Overview Builders and a member of the Southern Indiana Home Builder's Association. He was the former president of Home Builders Association of Southern Indiana, lifetime State Director of Indiana Home Builders Association, three-time Builder of the Year, a member of the National Home Builders Association, inductee of the Home Builders Association Hall of Fame, and former president of the Floyds Knobs Lions Club. A horseman from years gone by, Kenny loved the land, his family, and his faith. He was an incredible source of strength for those who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Kenny was born on March 20, 1944 in Floyd County, Indiana to the late Callistus J. and Geneva M. (Buechler) Smith. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, C.J. Smith, Ivan Smith, and Evelyn Heiligenberg; and Jill's fiance, Jesse Faulkenburg.
He is survived by his long-time fiancée, Patricia Harrison; children, Kenneth Smith, Jr. (Shelly), Mark Smith, Steve Smith (Leslie), Jill Smith, Lynn Scott (Chad), Lisa Koetter (T.J.), and Tim Tarpley (Benita); siblings, Ann Jeanette Baker, Donald Smith (Kathy), Charlotte Mooney (Steve), Nancy Smith (John Abel), Glenn Smith (Dawn), and Brenda Falkenstein (Mark)
Also surviving Kenny are his grandchildren, Jessica Paulley (Chris), Courtney Smith, Doug Smith (fiancée, Lindsay Hinson), J. Garrett Koetter (fiancée, Sarah Vencil), Jacob Wethington, Taylor Hoke, Alexis J. Koetter, Brayden Hoke, Joseph Smith, Whitney Boe Koetter, Ashley Scott, Kathleen Smith, Byron Scott, Jacqueline Smith, and C. J. Smith; great grandchildren, Matthew and Nicholas Staser, Gavin Paulley, Brooklyn Sandlin, and Easton Smith; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visitation will be 11 AM to 8 PM on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (8310 St. John's Road, Starlight, IN 47119) with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
