Kay Irene Oliver

December 17, 1944 — October 10, 2021

Kay Irene Oliver, née Peters, age 76, passed away suddenly on October 10, 2021, from natural causes, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 17, 1944 in Wauseon, Ohio. Kay was raised on a farm in Delta, Ohio and graduated from Delta High School in 1962. After briefly attending Findlay College, she married and began raising her family. She later returned to school and continued her studies at The Ohio State University, becoming a proud Buckeye alumna in 1978. Kay went on to earn her master's degree at the University of Louisville. Kay was a well-respected teacher of over 25 years and served most recently as the Gifted Education Coordinator for Henry County Public Schools in Kentucky before her retirement in 2002. In 1989, Kay married her husband and best friend, Dee. They shared a deep love of travel and had the goal to visit all 50 states. They had many wonderful adventures together.

Kay attended Middletown Christian Church where she devotedly practiced her faith. She gave selflessly of her time and talents, taking every opportunity to take others under her wing. Kay enjoyed spending her time gardening, woodworking, reading, and researching family genealogy. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, including her beloved grandchildren (and independent, yet needy, cat, Mojo). Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie "Dee" Oliver, and her parents, Raymond and Irene Peters.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Wendy (Jason) Skaggs of Cincinnati, Ohio; son, Jeremy (Kristy Knable) Von Deylen of Louisville; grandchildren, Justin, Ryan, and Caroline Skaggs and Madison and Savanna Von Deylen; siblings, Nancy Hagerman and Robert (Linda) Peters; and former spouse, Gerald Von Deylen; along with numerous other family members, friends, and students whose lives she touched.

Visitation will be at Middletown Christian Church, 500 Watterson Trail, Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday, November 5, 2021, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM with a Celebration of Life to follow at 3:30 PM.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Middletown Christian Church (Afghan Refugee Fund), Kentucky Humane Society or a charity of choice which honors her memory.
