Kathy A. Ransdell

Kathy A. Ransdell passed away on August 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a heart that never stopped giving. She finally gets to see her mom & Bert and so many others before her. ❤️

Kathy loved animals as much as she loved people. Her grand-fur babies Sophie, Gunther, and Charlie brought her so much joy, and she ended every conversation with Sarah saying, "Give Sophie and Gunther a pat for me”.

She never met a stranger and could talk your ear off before you’d even had a chance to sit down. Whether she was working in daycare with a wonderful group of ladies who became lifelong friends, or chatting it up on her Avon route, Kathy always found joy in connection.

Music was the soundtrack of her life—from The Beatles to Michael Bolton, she always had music on in the background. In fact, she was so passionate about music that one baby in her daycare said “Michael” before graduating to the next age group (a proud moment!). She left this world the same way she lived it—with Beatles songs playing. It was a peaceful exit of conversation and memories, surrounded by the music she adored and with people that loved her.

Later in life, Kathy dove into Avon sales, but it was never about the sale—it was about the people. She visited residents at Lincoln Hills nursing home with catalogs, deliveries, and meaningful conversation. She was known for giving Avon gifts to folks on fixed incomes who couldn’t afford a little extra—because to Kathy, everyone deserved to feel special.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Sarah Ransdell, and her son, David Ransdell (Katie). Kathy was a proud grandmother to Derrick, who lived with her through much of his childhood and held a special place in her heart. Though life circumstances made visits less frequent in her later years, she always remembered their games and time together fondly, and frequently said she hopes he will pursue something that he is passionate about.

Kathy was also a great-grandmother to three children through her grandson, Daniel Dawkins (Saundra). While she didn’t get the time she longed for with them, they were deeply loved from afar, and she wanted to be part of their lives.

She is also survived by her beloved step-mother, Mary Wright, and 4 step-brothers & sisters.

In her final years, she was blessed with the kindness and support of her cousin Sandy Fonda, who made sure Kathy had rides to appointments, essential care, and comforting companionship. Sandy was truly her angel on Earth. Special thanks also go to Delsie Ransdell, who played a vital role in keeping things running smoothly, coordinating with Sarah from Florida to ensure Kathy was always cared for. Another special thanks to David and Sarah’s dad, Joe Ransdell, who even though had divorced many years prior, was an active part of helping with Kathy’s needs and still keeping that family dynamic.

Kathy will be cremated, with a service to celebrate her life on Saturday, August 9 at 1 pm service at Tri-City Baptist Temple (1804 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana). Her memory will live on through stories, laughter, and through all the countless lives she touched, just by being herself - generous, spirited, and full of love.
