Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts, and with gratitude for the many wonderful memories she shared with us, that we announce the passing of Kathleen Whalen Johnson, a beloved mother, grandma, aunt, sister, and friend. Kathleen passed away on July 24th, 2026, at the age of 73.

Born on November 25th, 1952, Kathleen was the cherished daughter of Thomas and Alma Whalen. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Robby; and her brothers, Michael and Jimmy.

Kathleen dedicated her life to caring for others. As a nurse, she spent her career bringing comfort, compassion, and kindness to those in her care. Even after retiring, that same nurturing spirit remained at the heart of who she was, as she continued to care deeply for her family and friends.

Kathleen found happiness in the simple things. She loved birdwatching, caring for her plants, and spending time with Mini Moose, the family dog. Whether she was admiring a bird outside the window, tending to a plant, or spoiling Mini Moose, Kathleen knew how to appreciate life’s everyday joys.

Kathleen is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Scotty; her siblings, Tommy and Mary Claire; her nieces and nephews, Mindon, Joey, Gabe, Alma, and Sam; and her grandchildren, Dane and Mazie, who were truly the light of her life. Her family was always at the center of her world, and she leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and treasured memories.

A celebration of Kathleen’s life will be held on July 31st, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at BA Colonial, located at 818 West Kenwood Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40214. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor a life filled with compassion, humor, and love. Kathleen will be deeply missed. May her soul find peace and her spirit live on in everyone who knew her.
