Kathleen Anne (Fitzgerald) Bliss, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on September 8, 1954, on an Army base in Frankfurt, Germany, Kathleen was the beloved daughter of Lieutenant General Thomas Fitzgerald III and Wanda (Hardin) Fitzgerald.
Throughout her life, Kathleen demonstrated a remarkable blend of talents and kindness. After a dedicated career with the U.S. Census Bureau in Jeffersonville, she embraced her retirement years with grace and passion. She possessed a natural artistic flair, finding joy in crafts and creative endeavors that showcased her inventive spirit. An exceptional cook, Kathleen delighted in preparing many unique recipes born from her own creativity, sharing warmth and nourishment with those around her.
Kathleen’s generous heart extended beyond her family. She committed much time to volunteering at local soup kitchens, a testament to her compassionate nature and desire to uplift her community. Her love for nature was evident in her gardening pursuits, frequent hiking trips, and yoga practice, all activities that brought her fulfillment. Most importantly, Kathleen treasured moments spent with her family and friends, grounding her life in love and connection.
A woman of strong faith, Kathleen found daily strength in reading devotionals, drawing inspiration and serenity from her beliefs. Her spiritual foundation was a cornerstone of her character.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Paul Ross III, and her brothers, Thomas IV, Gerald, and Daniel Fitzgerald.
Kathleen is survived by her son, Daniel Ross, and his wife Kara; her grandchildren, Cole and Ava Ross; her niece, Nicole Beeler, and her husband Brian; as well as great-niece Sierra Martin and her husband Gunnar, along with their family; and great-nephew Adam Beeler.
Respecting Kathleen’s wishes, she will be cremated. Family and friends will gather to honor her life on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, located at 3309 Ballard Lane in New Albany. This will be followed by a celebration of her life beginning at 12:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest privately at Calvary Cemetery in Louisville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kathleen’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association or to Catalyst Rescue Mission (1727 DL Motley Way, Jeffersonville, IN 47130).
