Katherine Pauline Sites, 79, died on November 3, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on March 31, 1947, in Henderson, Kentucky.
Katherine was a thoughtful and accomplished woman who built a life centered on learning, service, family, and joy. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Western Kentucky University and later earned a Master of Library Science from the University of Kentucky. She spent her career with the Department of Defense, serving as head librarian at many posts throughout the United States. Her work took her to many places, and she embraced those opportunities with curiosity and dedication.
Travel was one of Katherine’s great pleasures. Along with the places she lived and worked, she also loved visiting other countries, taking in their beauty and experiencing different cultures. She was also known to enjoy a trip or two to Las Vegas.
Above all, Katherine’s greatest joy was her family, especially her sisters. The Sites girls traveled as a posse and shared many happy adventures together. She was quick to laugh, quick to help others, quick with her humor, and quick to give the best hugs. Those who knew her will remember her kindness, her generous heart, and the happiness she brought into a room.
She is survived by her sisters, Suzanne Sites Sparling, Betty Sites Cain, and Jean Sites Oerther (Carl), all of Louisville, Kentucky. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and one great-great-nephew.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence H. Sites and Annabelle Funk Sites of Henderson, Kentucky, and by her sister, Mary Louise Sites Nelson (Kenneth) of St. Louis, Missouri.
