Katherine (Kay) J. Russell

Katherine (Kay) J. Russell was born in Louisville, KY on July 26, 1932 to the late Roy B. and Mary Beaver Toon and passed on June 4, 2025. Kay met her second husband, Joe, during her teenage years while he worked at Cave Hill Cemetery with her father and brothers. She married the late Sidney Carlton, Jr. on June 9th, 1950. They had two daughters together. Kay and Joe were reunited in 1982 and were married on August 24, 1984. Kay worked at Stewart's Department Store as the Manager of the Cosmetics Department. She also volunteered for over 10 years with the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Louisville. Kay and her husband, Joe, were long time parishioners at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, where they served as ushers on Sunday mornings.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Joseph F. Russell, Sr.; her parents; her siblings, Aaron R. Dalton, Joseph Toon, Victoria Curtis, and Dorothy Rapp.

Kay is survived by her daughters, Judy Staten (Mike) and Vickie Morris (Randy); step-son, Joseph F. Russell, Jr. (Rebecca); granddaughters, Whitney Martin (Craig), Lauren Staten (Wendy Jean), Ashley Beougher (Jon), and Elizabeth Russell (Richard Sandford); great-grandchildren, Carly Martin, Finley Martin, Brandon Beougher, Abigail Beougher, Owen Sandford, and Evan Sandford; 3 additional step grandsons/granddaughters; and 8 great step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Due to prior family commitments, the family will have a celebration of Kay's life a month later on Monday, July 7, 2025 from 2 to 7 pm and on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 10 to 11 am at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive). A service to celebrate Kay's life will take place at 11 am on Tuesday morning at the funeral home with entombment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville (4400 Bardstown Road).
