Listen to Obituary

Kathy Jenkins, a remarkable and devoted wife, mother, mawmaw, sister, and friend passed away peacefully Sunday, August 24, 2025. A woman of incredible integrity, Kathy lived her life by lessons of love, compassion, empathy and selflessness taught to her by her own mother whom she greatly admired. She gave everything she had to others – her time, love and energy. And in doing so, she made the lives of everyone she touched richer and brighter. Born May 16, 1947, in Louisville, Kentucky, Kathy, or Kitty as her father would call her, was the daughter of the late Raymond and Catherine Rose (Moore) Evans. She was preceded in death by her brother Tommy, son, Gregory Scott, and husband, Paul.

Kathy shared an extraordinary bond with Paul, and through their 54 years of marriage built a life centered on love, laughter and family. Nothing brought her more joy than being with her children and grandchildren, who were truly the center of her world. She was their biggest supporter, their wisest counselor and their fiercest advocate. A trusted friend and confidant to so many, she had a gift of making everyone feel like family. Whether through a thoughtful conversation, sage advice, or the perfectly timed joke or sarcastic response, she could lift spirits and put hearts at ease. Her intelligence, wit, and sense of humor left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know her.

A graduate of duPont Manual High School and Sullivan University, Kathy proudly worked for Norton Healthcare for 54 years. She was admired and deeply respected for her work in finance and accounting. Her brilliance, determination, and integrity earned her the esteem of her colleagues, and resulted in numerous accolades and awards during her impressive tenure.

Stylish and full of life, she carried herself with an energy that lit up every room she entered. She had an abiding love for old-time rock and roll, the kind of music that showcased her playful spirit and could get her dancing and smiling in an instant. She loved the challenge of a good puzzle and would never turn down the chance to show her competitive side through a friendly game of cards, Bunco or Yahtzee.

Kathy is survived by her sons Jeff (Christy), Steven (Jeff Hellmueller); grandchildren Kendall and Mackenzie; brothers Larry and Roger; sister Lynn (Nord); and a cherished family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her memory dear. Her passing leaves a profound void in all who loved her. Yet even as we mourn, we take comfort in knowing that she will always be with us – supporting, guiding, and cheering us on, just as she did in life. She made the world a better place, and she made each of us better for having known her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Down Syndrome of Louisville, a cause that was very close to Kathy’s heart.
