Karen Lynn (Brown) Flick

September 21, 1950 — December 8, 2021

Karen Lynn Flick, 71, of Sellersburg, Indiana, went to her reward on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. She was born on September 21, 1950, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Bill and Dorothy (Potts) Brown.

She had a passion for her family, and was often found spending time loving them. She made everyone feel at home with her, cooking their favorite meals, baking their favorite desserts, crafting with her beloved grandchildren, and painting the girl's fingernails. She loved the challenge of learning how to quilt so she could make a special blanket for each grandchild when they were born, as well as for other extended family.

Karen loved the water. It didn't matter if it was the lake, the beach, or being in the pool, especially with her grandbabies (even if their lips were all blue). When she FINALLY convinced Randy she needed a pool, she could be found every warm day swimming. She even helped teach her grandchildren how to swim. Some of her fondest memories growing up involved camping with family at Dale Hollow, even into her adult years. Every chance Karen got she was at the beach, and she was always planning her next trip the second she left.

Whether it was Okinawa, Germany, or just overnight trips across the U.S., she was always ready to travel. Being a military wife, she lived in several states and learned how to easily make lifelong friends everywhere she went. She followed Randy everywhere.

She and Randy have had a seasonal garden for many years. Karen learned canning from her mother-in-law, and through that the garden fed many through the entire year. Fresh salsa, strawberry jelly, and green beans that won blue ribbons at the Kentucky State Fair (more than once). Her state fair entries included cakes, pies, and breads that also won ribbons. Karen's cooking for us will be sorely missed.

Visiting her home meant looking at the almost endless amount of flowers she cared for in her garden beds. She was especially proud of the care she took of the legacy flowers collected from grandparents, parents, her mother-in-law, and many more. She shared those flowers with friends and neighbors. Karen's flowers will be a continuing tribute to her memory.

Karen is survived by her loving husband of 50+ years, Randy Flick; son, Aaron (Terri) Flick; daughter, Candi (Mike) Graves; grandchildren, Alex Flick, Fiona Graves, Ellie Flick, and Dean Graves; brother, Jack (Sue) Brown; sister, Judy (Bill) McBrayer; brother, David (Tammy) Brown; and an aunt, Bobbi Seigmann. She had many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will all miss her.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany), with additional visitation on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Her Funeral Service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
