Julia Alice Mason Towles, affectionately known as Judy, was born on April 30, 1933, in Kokomo, Indiana, and passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. A dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse, Judy spent her career serving others in various esteemed institutions, including the original Norton Hospital on Oak Street in Downtown Louisville, a Pediatrician's office, Methodist Hospital, General Hospital, St. Matthew's Manor Nursing Home, and retired from the American Red Cross. Her commitment to healthcare and the well-being of others was both commendable and inspiring.
Judy was a healer by profession and also had a profound love for life that was evident in every aspect of her being. A proud graduate of Kokomo High School and a native of Kokomo, Indiana, she always kept her Hoosier pride! Following high school, Judy graduated from the Methodist Hospital Indianapolis School of Nursing. She nurtured a lifelong passion for music and singing, performing with The Joyous Singers for many years. As a 71-year member of Beargrass Christian Church, she enriched the congregation with her beautiful voice in the choir and cherished the friendships formed through the Friendship Sunday School Class.
Her hobbies included reading, movies, hiking, biking, crossword puzzles & especially sewing, where she excelled as an accomplished seamstress. Judy expressed her love for family through her poetry, often writing fun verses to celebrate the bonds she held dear. Her most cherished memories were made at her beloved vacation destination on South Shore Drive of Crystal Lake, Michigan, a place she fell in love with at 16 and returned to throughout her entire life, often saying, “There's no other place like it!” Judy's children & grandchildren will continue to enjoy Crystal Lake for years to come.
Judy’s family brought her immeasurable joy and pride. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Parsons Frank (Jeff), Julia "Julie" Kay Parsons, and Cathy Parsons Leis (Tom); her grandchildren, Audrey Leis, Evan Frank (Erin), Marshall Leis, and Mason Frank; her sister, Marcia Mason Wilson (Yogi); her great-grandchildren, Jaxen Gossom, Xayden Gossom, Forrest Leis, and Elsie Frank; her former spouse, Donald E. Parsons; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will all remember her fondly.
Judy is predeceased by her husband, Donald B. Towles; her parents, Earl Marshall Mason and Julia Orvetta Mason; her brother, Jack Marshall Mason; her grandmother, Flora Alice Cotterman; her aunt, Frieda Cotterman Barker; and Rev. Jo and Rebecca Riley, who graciously opened their home to her after the passing of her parents.

Judy’s legacy of love, compassion, and joyous spirit will forever be etched in the hearts of those she touched throughout her life.
Our Mom was generous beyond compare. We all had so much fun with her. Although her mother passed when she was at the young age of 3, our Mom was the epitome of what a loving mother and grandmother should be. We are all very fortunate to have been in her life.
