It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Judy Ann Baldwin on October 6, 2025, at the age of 83.
Judy was born, raised, and lived her life here in Southern Indiana. Throughout her years, she left an enduring impact on this community through her incredible gift of music and her unwavering love for people. Together with her husband Don, Judy served faithfully in music ministry at several churches - the Hour of Power Church, Park Place UMC, Main Street UMC, Wesley Chapel UMC, New Beginnings, Cornerstone, and Tunnel Hill Christian Church.
Her piano playing was uniquely her own - filled with both skill and soul - but what made her truly special wasn’t just her music. It was the way she cared for others. During every service, Judy would scan the congregation, always looking for visitors, making sure someone reached out to welcome them. She was a wonderful musician, but her true ministry was loving and caring for people.
Growing up, I remember the hours she spent on Tuesdays calling choir members to remind them about Wednesday night practice - and then calling again over the weekend to make sure they’d be at church on Sunday. Many of those calls turned into long, heartfelt conversations - part encouragement, part friendship, always full of love. She poured her heart into her ministry, her music, and the people she served.
Nothing brought her more joy than being around young people. Whether it was a dinner, a wedding, or a party, Judy could always be found near the laughter - sometimes rolling her wheelchair right up to the group just to join in. She had a gift for connecting with people, “working a room” like no one else. She never met a stranger, striking up conversations with phone operators, servers, delivery drivers - anyone who crossed her path.
Judy was a gifted listener, a wonderful conversationalist, and someone who was always genuinely interested in what was happening in other people’s lives. She had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke - even pulling off a few playful pranks back in the day. Her infectious laugh and radiant smile will be among the things we miss most.
The piano still sitting in her living room may never be played quite the way she played it, but the music she shared - and the lives she touched through it - will echo for years to come.
Judy Baldwin is survived by her loving husband, Don Baldwin; her children, Joy (Bill) Adams and Stephen (Annette) Baldwin; her grandchildren, Kelsey, Cassidy, Adeline, and Eleanor; and her sister, Janet (Bill) Smith.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 10th, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana).
