Judith Bess Gerdis, born May 16, 1946, in Sitka, Alaska, entered the presence of her Savior on July 10, 2026, at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy of faith, joy, and love. Her life's journey, from Sitka to Louisville, was marked by deep connections and a fervent devotion to God.
Judy shared a cherished life with her husband, Thomas A. Gerdis, for 57 years until his passing.
Together, they built a family rooted in love and faith, raising their children Trina (Kenny), Joel (Toby), and Micah (Gina), and adoring their grandchildren Gideon, Maia, Ivy, Ethan, Benjamin, Julia, Frankie, and Saphi.
Her early years in Alaska, where her parents were missionaries, shaped her resilient spirit and abiding connection to the land she always called "home away from home." Judy's life was a tapestry of community, education, and service—from studying elementary education and art, to gathering hearts in Bible study and prayer, to fostering fellowship in Springfield, MO and beyond.
In Louisville, Judy and Tom found a sanctuary at Southeast Christian Church, serving faithfully and touching lives through her heartfelt ministry. Her compassion shone brightest in Southeast’s Cancer Care Ministry, where her own battles with cancer transformed into hope for others.
Judy excelled in diverse roles, from teaching to sales, always leaving an imprint of warmth and integrity. Her celebrated peanut butter pie was just one delicious example of how she wove love into every aspect of life, drawing friends and family to her welcoming table.
A storyteller at heart, Judy regaled listeners with tales of adventure, endurance, and divine miracles. Her faith, unwavering in trials, became a beacon to those around her, illuminated by her favorite scripture from 2 Corinthians 4:8-10, 16-18—a reflection of her resilient and eternal perspective.
Above all, Judy’s legacy is her unwavering commitment to her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her story continues through the lives she touched, echoing her desire for others to witness God’s enduring faithfulness.
