Juanita Rose (Plew) Russell, 83, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026. Born on October 20, 1942, Juanita’s life was marked by dedication, compassion, and an enduring strength that touched all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Juanita’s commitment to hard work and to her community was evident throughout her career. She retired from Fire King in New Albany, where she took immense pride not only in her role as an employee but also as a dedicated member of Teamsters Local 89. Her leadership and advocacy as a union steward for more than 20 years earned her respect and admiration among her colleagues, who knew her as a tireless champion for fairness and unity in the workplace.
Her devotion extended beyond her professional life into her faith and community. Juanita was a valued and active member of Pilgrim Faith Fellowship in Louisville, where her kindness, warmth, and willingness to serve were constants.
Family meant everything to Juanita, and she cherished the company of those she loved. She is survived by her sons: James Tutt, Jr. (Sherri), Darrell Russell (Terri Davis), her daughters, Dianna Williams (Robert), Darlene Williams. Her love and legacy continue through her grandsons: Julian Underwood, Cody Russell, Raymond Tutt, Andre Muir, James Tutt III, Deon Tutt, Samuel Kendrick, James Tutt, Martin Tutt, her granddaughters, Candace Russell, Trionna Shirley, Sasha Underwood, Ryann Dow, Vernita Hill, and Shantaya Tutt. Juanita is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, her brother, Buford Plew and a host of extended family members and friends.
She now joins in peaceful rest those who preceded her in death: her parents, Mabel Plew, Raymond and Odie Bell Tutt, Charlie and Georgia Russell; her daughter, Deborah Tutt-Ndiaye; her grandsons, Antonio Tutt and Brandon Caudell; her brothers, Albert Plew and Frankie Plew; and her sisters, Virginia McBurney and Thelma Jean Ralston.
Outside of her many roles as a mother, grandmother, and sister, Juanita had a zest for life that was apparent in her enjoyment of horse racing and her love of cooking wonderful meals. She will be remembered for her good sense of humor and generous heart—a woman always eager to care for those around her.
