Joyce Ellen Fogle, a cherished, precious, soul known for her sweet spirit, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, in Clarksville, Indiana. She was born on September 13, 1946, in Newark, Ohio.
Joyce was a graduate of Newark High School, Newark, Ohio. One of Joyce’s earliest jobs was a nurse aide in the same nursing home where her mother worked. She held many different jobs thru the years. Her last employment was as a security guard. She always gave her all to a good day’s work and she knew how to make every penny stretch. Joyce volunteered at her church in Florida by cleaning the building and working with the youth group. She delivered the Bible devotional books “My Daily Bread” to various business.
Joyce was married for three years to the Late Leroy James Scofield. They had one child- Rita Jean. She later married Robert “Wayne” Fogle, they shared 54 years of marriage. Together, they shared many memories, special were the ones of family, especially during holidays.
Joyce was proud of her daughter Rita (spouse Mike Harrington). She also had step-sons, Alex Fogle (Jeanette), Adam Fogle, and Andrew (Renee) Fogle. Joyce had three grandchildren- John, Phillip, and Joseph Harrington, who brought her endless happiness as well as several step-grandchildren. Joyce loved her family and enjoyed spending, time with them as much as she could. Those were moments she treasured deeply.
Joyce loved her siblings. Those still to cherish her memory: brothers Larry (Mary Jane) Crothers and Richard D. (Karen) Crothers, and sisters Janet (Mike) Bush and Betty (Dave) Wise. She also held close a sister-in-law, Judy Crothers (Joe) Broschart. She loved her extended family that included many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Later in life and during her most challenging days she could always count on her dear friend Janet Fox.
Joyce lived in several states: Ohio, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana. Joyce was baptized at Central Christian Church in Newark, Ohio and again as an adult at Baymeadows Baptist Church Jacksonville, Florida. Wherever she lived she always found a church to faithfully attend and call her church home. Most recently She was a member of Southeast Christian Church in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where her faith anchored her spirit. She delighted in the simple joys of life—working both board and word puzzles, that challenged her mind, savoring meals out with family, and cherishing the moments spent in their company. Her character marked by a quiet, steadfast, and sweet spirit, left an imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Her early life was shaped by the love of her parents, Richard Thomas Crothers and Ella Jean Crothers, now at rest. She was also preceded in death by her step son Alan Fogle, brother William Crothers Sr. (Judy) and brother-in-law Mike Bush (husband of Janet). Through these losses weighed heavy on her heart, Joyce’s focus remained on the living—her family and friends who meant the world to her.
In her final hours, Joyce was with the ones she held most dear, leaving this world wrapped in the love of her husband and family and comforted by the words of the 23rd Psalm. Her legacy is one of steadfast dedication, and a spirit that will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched.
Joyce Ellen Fogle will be remembered as a loyal wife, a sweet mother, a loving grandmother, a trusted sister, a treasured aunt and a precious friend. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
