Joyce Ann Powell Churchman

Churchman Powell Joyce Ann, 81, went to be with her heavenly father on December 21, 2015. Joyce was retired from Brown and Williamson and was a member of Beechland Baptist Church. She loved helping people and fulfilled that passion by volunteering at Churchill Downs Christ Chapel. She will be remembered for her love of life, family, friends, horses and Elvis.

Joyce was born on April 24, 1934, in Hardin County, Kentucky to the late Fred and Lena Powell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Churchman; son, Mark Goodman, and sister, Beulah Whitehouse.

She is survived by her sons, Perry Goodman, Warren Goodman (Sarah); daughter, Denise Bagwell; step-sons, Larry Churchman (Teri), John Churchman (Debbie), and Gary Churchman (Debbie); nieces, Gerry Campbell, and Vickie Wethington (John); 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and her beloved dog, Smarty Churchman.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Newcomer Funeral Home (10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville). A funeral service to honor the life of Joyce will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with entombment to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
