Louisville

Joseph William Maier, Jr., age 82, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, April 13, 2025. He was born on September 25, 1942 to the late Joseph Sr. and Alberta Maier. A proud 1960 graduate of St. Xavier High School, Joe went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army — values that shaped his life and character. He enjoyed a long and accomplished career in the food industry, retiring from Mother’s Cookie Company as a senior sales and marketing leader. He was known for his strategic insight, work ethic, and lasting relationships. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Joseph, “Joe,” was a man of quiet strength, deep humility, and unwavering love for his family. Joe and Linda shared a passion for travel, exploring the country and the world together, creating a lifetime of memories.

Above all, Joe was a family man. He lived with purpose and gentleness, always putting others first. His legacy is one of steadfast love, quiet faithfulness, and grace-filled leadership.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Linda Caroline Maier; his sister, Norma Maier Recktenwald; and other cherished family members.

Joe is survived by his four loving children: David Maier (Alice), Tracey Leaman (Don), Allison Maier (Chris Howard), and Emily Schmiedeler (Todd); and his treasured grandchildren: Austin, Avery, Lilly, Emma, Caroline, Joey, Ava, Abby, and Olivia. He is also lovingly remembered by his extended family and many friends who were touched by his sincerity, integrity, and warmth.

A committal service and military honors, will be held on Tuesday April 29, 11am, at St Michael Cemetery, 1300 Ellison Ave, Louisville, KY 40204. Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, East Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville KY, 40243, is entrusted with his arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice that supports families, children, or cancer research — causes that mattered deeply to Joe.
