Joseph "Joey" Allen Hayes, born on March 5, 1982, left this world on September 23, 2025. He was a person whose spirit and love for life touched the hearts of many. Joey was known for his adventurous nature in his youth, having pursued a career as a professional wrestler in his 20s known as "Ivan Wicked", a testament to his fearless personality and dedication to his passions.
Joey was a devoted son, brother, and father. His family meant everything to him, and he continually demonstrated this through his caring nature. Ever the jokester, Joey had a remarkable sense of humor that brought joy to those around him, often placing the needs of others before his own. He took great pride in watching over and supporting his family, and his proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly his beloved son, Sawyer. In addition to his role as a loving family member, Joey had a wide array of interests that brought him joy. He loved playing golf and was a passionate fan of the University of Louisville Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers.
Joey loved playing Dungeons and Dragons and Fantasy Football with his friends, and he loved watching scary movies. Joey had a particular fondness for fried chicken and Wawa smoothies.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Hayes; grandparents, Velda Taylor and James Taylor; uncle, Jim Taylor and his in-laws, Pam and Steve Layer.
Joey is survived by his son and best friend, Sawyer Hayes; mother, Cindy Hayes; brother, Jason (Joey Parks) Hayes; niece Skylair Hayes; nephew, Owen Olivier; special person, Brenda "Aunt B" Reul; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and too many friends to count.
A viewing will be held in Joey's honor at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY, 40272, on September 30, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Following the viewing, a funeral service will take place at the same location beginning at 6:00 PM and concluding at 7:00 PM.
Joey Hayes will be remembered by those who loved him as a kind and humorous soul who made a lasting impact, whether through his familial bonds or the camaraderie he fostered with friends and fellow enthusiasts. He is dearly missed and will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
